Reliance Jio Infocomm Ltd (“RJIL”) in March announced that it had successfully acquired the right to use spectrum worth Rs 57,122.65 crore in all 22 circles across India in the recently concluded spectrum auctions conducted by the Department of Telecommunications, Government of India. The company had acquired spectrums in 850MHZ, 1800MHZ and 2300MHZ bands. The total owned national footprint of spectrum held by Jio has increased significantly by 55%, to 1,717 MHz (uplink+ downlink). It now has the highest amount of sub-GHz spectrum with 2X10 MHz contiguous spectrum in most circles.
In Assam, Jio has acquired 4.6MHz of 1800MHz band; and 10 MHz of 2300 MHz band. With this total spectrum holding in Assam has increased to 5MHz in 850MHz band, 10MHz in 1800MHz band 40 MHz of 2300 MHz band. Jio has completed deployment of the recently acquired spectrum in 2300 Mhz, which has led to network decongestion and customers experiencing delight with better internet speeds.
Assam traditionally has high data usage per subscriber. In the recent past, there has been a surge in data usage due to higher requirements from home for online education, entertainment, etc. due to the ongoing pandemic.
With additional spectrum rollout Jio will enhance user experience, better internet speeds for its 9 million customers of Assam. It is likely that the data consumption of these customers will increase. In the coming months, more customers will be able to embrace Jio, because of capacity expansion due to the newly acquired spectrum.
Reliance Jio has been able to garner market leadership in Assam through a robust 4G LTE network deployment covering more than 95 percent of the total population, 217 Towns and more than 24432 villages in Assam.
The network robustness was further established during the recent earthquake on 28th April which had a magnitude of 6.4 and Jio’s network of both Fibre and mobility stood unblemished.
Apart from the rapid deployment of 4G sites across the State of Assam, Reliance Jio has also set up numerous Jio Points across rural towns to reach out and service the rural population of the State at their doorstep, in addition to Jio Centers in the district headquarters, Jio Digital Express Mini Stores & Digital Stores for servicing their customers
With the enhanced spectrum footprint, especially contiguous spectrum and pan-India infrastructure deployed, Jio has enhanced network capacity to service its existing users as well as hundreds of millions of more subscribers on its network.
